On Top of The World (11/4/26)

Bob and I have been emotionally on top of the world since watching the election results last night and seeing a blue wave sweep the country, including 3 of the states that mean the most to us — Texas, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

More than a win for Democratic candidates, I find comfort in the fact that finally so many of my fellow citizens wanted something different than the status quo. I am sure a lot of the drivers were economic, and I definitely understand that, but I am hoping also that maybe they don’t want to be associated with a country that rewards grift and greed by government officials, that deports and/or kills human beings based on the color of their skin or their name or that don’t immediately acquiesce to being arrested by masked men or who happen to be in a boat in the water that might have drugs in it. I hope that they are tired of having a President that denigrates our nation’s friends and rewards dictators, calls any negative information on him “fake news,” and feels free to insult anyone and everyone that doesn’t flatter him.

Yesterday’s results make me more hopeful for this country than I have been in a long time. I hope that there will be responsive change in the government to meet people’s needs and to hold the current administration accountable. It is important. I want today’s children to grow up in a country at least as imperfectly free and fair as it was when I grew up.

That’s my 2 cents, and I’ll try to keep out of politics again for awhile.

Today, Bob and I were on top of our Silver City world, as we returned to Boston Hill to walk to the summit. It was a relatively short hike on a beautiful fall day.
