Yesterday, Bob and I walked over to the university to add some more “swipes” to our card for the Rec Center, so we can continue to use the center until we leave Silver City towards the latter part of November. The Administration Building was all decked out for Halloween and were even having a decorated pumpkin contest. We were impressed with the selection as well as the man guarding the Pumpkin Patch. We didn’t get photos, but staff were dressed up as well. A male staff member was dressed as Wednesday from “The Addams Family” and a female staff member was dressed as an Oompa Loompa from “The Wizard of Oz.”

down the street from the university. I applauded.
Bob and my first date was a Halloween Party in college, and I realized this morning that it was 40 years ago today. I wish sometime that I would remember something that would make me feel young instead of old, but that’s getting more unlikely every year. Still, 40 years is pretty impressive considering we can both have our special quirks.
Today, we walked downtown to experience our first ever Xantolo celebration. Xantolo is a variant of the Day of the Dead celebration indigenous to the Huasteca region of Mexico. The celebration is held annually in that region of Mexico in honor of the dead from October 30 to November 30. It was held here from 10 until 4. We are having a few days of on-and-off rain at the moment, but the conditions have been mostly dry today.

They were all brightly colored, and many contained samples
of food or drink that the deceased person liked.

Happy Halloween 2026 and don’t forget to set your clocks back tonight if you’re in the US!
